On May 6, 2024, an investor alleged that Matthew Hiss improperly invested in high-risk, high-commission, illiquid alternative investment called GWG L Bonds. These investments were in his IRA account. Matthew Hiss allegedly misrepresented GWG L Bonds as safe investments and failed to conduct reasonable due diligence.
GWG L Bonds suffered tremendous losses after a risky gamble on life insurance policies failed to produce returns. GWG Holdings has since filed for bankruptcy.
